05.15.2018: One Chapter of Nonfiction

Today's soundtrack is Grand-Lee Phillips: Mobilize.

This afternoon, I've only got a bit of time to get this done before I need to take my son to his piano lessons, so I'm reading the third chapter of the first book of Aristotle's Ethics.

Political science looks at what is good and just, and since these are areas of morality - and thus, areas without clear boundaries - we know that political science cannot be as clear-cut as some other sciences. Since things that are good can have bad consequences when they are in excess in some situations (for example, water is good, but it is possible to drown if you are in too much of it), it is better to have general guidelines on morality and goodness than to try to prescribe specifics for every situation. Educated people recognize that some fields can be held to less precision than others. Since young people are more easily swayed by feelings and have less life experience than their elders, the study of political science is best left to the older citizens. This also applies to people who are mentally immature, or who have little emotional life experience.
